The Problem: Lack of Water, Toilets & the Cycle of Poverty
It kills children: More than wars or earthquakes. More than malaria, HIV/AIDS and TB combined. Lack of access to water and toilets is the world’s biggest killer.
It devastates women and girls: Girls carry water instead of going to school. For their mothers, time spent in this burdensome activity means they have little time or energy to participate in income-generating work.
It deepens poverty: Poor people spend a high percentage of their household income on medical treatment to combat preventable illnesses caused by lack of water and toilets.

Our Solution: How We Work
People living in extreme poverty have many needs, but we believe water and toilets come first. There is a powerful and direct link between human development and convenient access to water and toilets. Through the implementation of sustainable, community-managed water supply and sanitation projects, we are addressing the most fundamental issues of poverty, childhood death, and gender equality.

Where We Work
We believe there is no better way to invest in the lives of the world’s poorest than a water, sanitation, and hygiene-education project. These services save lives and spare women and children the arduous daily task of carrying water, allowing them to devote their time to food production, income generation, and education.
