Our Founder & Executive Director first met Dina in 1996 in the small mountainside community of Los Sorrianos in western Honduras. As a bright and vivacious four year-old, Dina spent her days collecting water with her mother.
The following year, with the support of our local partner, COCEPRADIL, the Los Sorrianos water project was completed. Dina and her family had water piped to directly to their home—including a kitchen tap & toilet.
Dina had just turned five and began walking to school instead of the distant river. She thrived in the classroom and was an outstanding student. She finished high school early, and completed a degree in Community Development.
Your investment in water is a catalyst for change. Communities no longer spend their time & money fighting preventable diseases; they are healthier and can save for the future. Women and girls no longer spend their days collecting water; they attend school instead. Educated girls have fewer and healthier children and prioritize education for the next generation. Empowered communities build roads, and schools, and health clinics. When everyone has an equal opportunity to contribute, real progress happens.
