In January 2014, we visited the community of Los Limones in the municipality of Guarita, a project we plan to support in 2014. This project presents a very difficult technical challenge due to the distance to the water source – 18 kilometers – and extreme elevation difference.

Pictured above is where community members do their laundry. The women shared with us that the line to do laundry at this spring site starts at 4:00 am. Sometimes women and children wait their turn in line all day to use the very limited water supply.

We watched this young girl (above) do her family’s laundry all by herself and then carry it home on her head – alone.
