PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This school year program empowers students to use their talents and networks to further the work of Water1st. Students gain a deep understanding of the global water crisis and acquire the tools to effectively communicate the problem, thus creating the next generation of super-advocates who are positively impacting the world.

Water1st Youth Board members meet to engage in activities that, 1/ educate students on the impact and challenges of the global water crisis, 2/ empower students to make a difference through advocacy training, 3/ support a new network of friendships based on a common interest of global equity.

Our curriculum teaches students a variety of global development topics including public health, technology, economics, gender equity, research, monitoring & evaluation, and community-led development.

Advocacy training includes public speaking, writing, designing social media campaigns, and more.

Leadership positions are available for returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Opportunities include the meeting committee, social media committee, focus group facilitator, and liaison to the Water1st Board.

We offer in-person meetings for students in Seattle and the surrounding area. Transportation assistance available.

EDUCATION.
Students learn about the positive outcomes of a community-led approach to global development as well as the unique complexities of extreme poverty and the challenges in each of the regions where we work. They develop a deep understanding of our holistic projects that include piped water to individual households.

ADVOCACY.
Students learn how to be advocates for a cause; how to develop a strong voice; and how to develop a plan to impact the injustices they see in the world.

FUNDRAISING.
Our culminating event is our annual Carry5 Walk for Water. Students host the walk, rally friends, serve as volunteers, and raise money for a community water project.
Applications for the 2023-24 Water1st Youth Board are now open and due September 20, 2023.
