Water has been flowing for over a year now in the community of 19 de Outubro, Mozambique and hope is in the air.
An important part of our work is to listen to the community members we serve. The impact of our work is always visually obvious to us when visiting a community post-water project, but to really listen to the women offers us an especially poignant perspective.
Sitting in the shade of a mango tree on a scorching day, we asked community members, “How has this water system impacted your lives?”.
Lara quickly stood up, pointed to herself, and said, “Just look at me! I am beautiful. My clothes are clean. Last time you visited my legs and feet were dirty from going to the water hole, my skin covered with bites. No longer. I am beautiful! I have nothing more to say, but thank you.”
Against the backdrop of their mother’s thriving garden, the beautiful Domingos sisters, Riduana and Sonia, now have unlimited access to water at home. They also attend school and use the newly-installed water tap there during the day.
Thanks to your support, household connections have ended the walk for water through the rugged landscape of 19 de Outubro and given all of the beautiful women newfound time, dignity, and hope for the future.
