Frida Mumbwe described her vision of water at her home as “freedom.” The announcement of a new water system in Emukoye, Kenya was met with strong emotions—joy, gratitude, singing, dancing, thanks to God, and tears. During a recent visit, Frida shared her experience walking for water and her gratitude for a new water project. “I have suffered carrying water since I was young. My knees cannot even go for that water currently. I am very grateful to you for allowing us to have water at our doorstep and a shower. This is something we have heard of, but have never seen. Thank you!…Now to freedom.”
Your generous support will end the walk for water for Frida and her neighbors. Every home will have clean water at the turn of the tap with a sink, a toilet, and a shower. With the burden of carrying water lifted, women will have time and energy to earn an income or grow food. Girls will attend school and utilize their education to create a better future for themselves and their families.
The people of Emukoye have selected leaders such as Frida to receive intensive training on water system administration and maintenance. Every home will pay a small fee for water, and our local partner organization will prepare the community to independently own and operate their system in perpetuity.
