This original 1994 national ballot from the Republic of South Africa was cast by a voter in Soweto to vote for Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress. Because the South African government insisted on an easy-to-understand ballot, the faces of all 14 political party candidates are pictured in full color, including Nelson Mandela of the ANC who became President in May 1994, F.W. de Klerk of the National Party who became Vice President, and Chief Buthelezi of the Inkatha Freedom Party (Zulus).
