The Emukoye project continues to progress smoothly. The water management committee is taking over the operation and maintenance responsibility of the water system. Currently, the committee meets twice a month to conduct business and has issued and collected two months worth of water bills. Also, they conducted the cleaning of the diversion tank, which is required quarterly. Additionally, the committee organized work teams to extend the water supply pipeline into the communities of Musango and Mulwanda, where much of the piping for both areas has already been installed.

During Water1st ‘s visit in June, thirteen households had finished constructing septic pits and platforms, which include the bathroom floor with integrated plumbing for toilets and shower drains, for their household toilets. At the beginning of September, the number of households with completed septic pits and platforms increased to 83. Ten households have completed work on their superstructure (the property owner funds the construction of the bathroom walls and roof) and have fully functional toilets and showers.

CABDA’s plans for the remainder of the year include adding 100 household taps in Musango and Mulwanda and completing toilets at the households that previously received water service in the first half of 2024. They will also construct flush toilets at the local schools to improve sanitation conditions for students and teachers.
